Gaming Chair vs Office Chair – What’s Better?
Hey guys, hope you’re doing well. So if you’re sitting on something like this, or this, or this, or this, you probably should do something about it. Gaming chairs have become hugely popular in the past few years and now most gamers, streamers and youtubers use them.
Office chairs on the other hand have been around for decades and it’s what you’ll see in pretty much any corporate office. So what’s best? Well in this video we’ll try to answer that question.
I have 2 chairs here with me. This one belongs to my other half, it’s from a company called Maxnomic, costs around $450 dollars and it has an ESL logo on it to give it some more gaming pedigree. This chair is my very own.
It’s called the RH Logic and It’s ancient, if you try to buy one of these new you’re looking at well over $1,000. Luckily I bought it used for around $80 so a sweet deal if you ask me. We’ll use these 2 chairs to try and come to an overall decision but of course your mileage may vary depending on what models you’re comparing.
Anyway let’s kick it off with design where I think it’s safe to say the Maxnomic wins. It looks more modern and high quality. The chair uses a mix of faux leather and what feels like alcantara. I like the white stitching to give it some more character but I personally don’t care for the big logos.
The RH Logic looks good considering it’s pushing 20 years old but it was never meant to look cool, and so it doesn’t. Both chairs roll equally well but we can’t be having ties around here so we’re going to get scientific with it.
-Declare winner Let’s check out build quality. First the Maxnomic, it feels well made and sturdy for the most part. Until… In my opinion if you’re paying this much for a chair, those squeaks are just not acceptable, especially not from a new chair.
This thing is like half a year old and it’s making these noises, imagine the noises it will make in 5 years. The RH Logic makes a few noises too. But I would put most of these down to age, and they’re not that bad.
For example the arm rest doesn’t make any noise until you violently wiggle it. I give build quality to the office chair. OK, the big one. Comfort. So both have their advantages. I would say the office chair is far more comfortable for sitting in it all day long.
The adjustable lumber support on this chair is superior to the cheap cushion you get on the Maxnomic. It also has a proper neck rest which you can adjust the height and position of which allows you to work whilst resting your neck.
If you try to rest your neck on the Maxnomic you end up in a weird position that you don’t want to be in. However the Maxnomic does have a special trick up its’ sleeve. So yeah, it can recline almost to fully to be in a horizontal position.
If you’re into gaming conventions where you pretty much have to sleep in your chair, I would take this any day over the office chair. The chair is well balanced and it doesn’t feel like you’re about to tip over even if you have your feet in the air.
I do want to point this out though, the seat is shaped kind of like in a sports cars with bucket seats, I don’t mind it while sitting but when laying down it digs into my back and ruins what might otherwise be a comfortable experience.
That could just be me though, I am a rather large human being. The RH Logic reclines too but nowhere near as much. However, this is enough for me and like I said already, I’ve spent a full day sitting in both and I can honestly tell you I preferred my own.
That could just be bias because after all this is mine, but I experienced some lower back pain from the Maxnomic which I suspect is due to lack of proper lumbar support. The pillow is better than nothing, but not by much.
I also prefer the materials used on the RH Logic. It doesn’t look as nice, but if you’re sitting somewhere hot, this faux leather will get sweaty and your clothes or your skin will stick to it. That’s not an issue on the RH Logic with this cloth which does a great job of not getting too warm or too sweaty.
So then we get to price. Most people think gaming chairs are expensive but actually they’re quite cheap. As I said in the beginning, if I had a brand new version of this right now, it would probably cost close to $1,500 and that is just too much for most people.
But if you don’t care about having a brand new chair, you can find some really good deals from companies who are upgrading their existing chairs, going out of business, downsizing or whatever. Yes it’s had someone else’s butt pressed against it for a long time but you can give it a good clean and you’ll forget about that eventually.
Now, would I spend $1500 on one if that was my only option? Well that would depend on how much I made. I would say not with my current financials but if I could afford it yes. Just like it’s worth spending a lot of money on a really nice bed, it’s worth spending a lot of money on a really nice chair.
And unless you’re really into gaming conventions where you have to sleep in your chair, there’s no way I would recommend this over this. Thank you guys for watching, if this video helped you out please support the channel by dropping a like, subscribing and I’ll see you guys next time.
